Halberg Games formerly Junior Disability Games
Parafed Bay of Plenty young people can begin preparation for this year's Junior Disability Games hosted by the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation for 8-21 year olds. The Games are going to be held over 3 days and this year will take place at Kings College in Auckland on 11th, 12th and 13th October 2019.
This is a great opportunity for our young people to participate in sport within a fun and supportive environment. It is a fantastic way to bring everyone around NZ together and not only compete in sports familiar to the athletes' regions but to have the opportunity to try out new sports at the same venue.
Halberg will be providing opportunities within over 20 different sports over the three days which will include Swimming, Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Powerchair Football and Archery, just to name a few.
Through 2019 and the lead up to the October Games, Parafed BOP is providing a development programme to both raise awareness of this sports weekend and to help prepare our athletes for competition while also strengthening team spirit. The programme will involve regular sessions so the athletes can get to know each other and have a go at different sports and games. Additional to these sessions ‘Have a Go Days’ are planned for throughout the year to provide an opportunity to play and have coaching for a few of the sports featuring at the Games, This will also generate more interest with the potential to find some more BOP athletes.
Parafed BOP is really keen to find out if there are any young people with a physical impairment that would be interested in getting involved and being part of our Bay of Plenty Youth Development Programme. We would also like to know who would like to be in the next BOP Junior Disability Games Team!
