Festival of Disability Sport

WHEN: 

Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th April 2024.  See below the details from 2023 to give you an idea on what its all about!  2023 was a fantastic festival!

WHERE:

Trustpower Arena, Tauranga - SAT 9-5pm & SUN 9-3pm for Wheelchair Tournaments, Have-a-go Sessions, including Trailrider demonstrations.

Club Mount Maunganui - SAT 12-4pm for Bowling, Petanque and Croquet "Tri Games"

Sailability, Sulphur Point, Tauranga Marina - SAT 11am and 1pm Sailing Sessions

WHO:

Anybody with a physical disability, including low vision and hearing impairments and their whanau, friends and supporters. The have-a-go sessions are fully inclusive for ALL to enjoy.

HOW TO REGISTER:

Contact Suzanne - suzanne@parafedbop.co.nz or REGISTER HERE and select if you are a volunteer or wish to participate.  There is a different form for JUNIOR and SENIOR.

The Healthvision Festival of Disability Sport is a high energy 2 day event which brings together physically disabled athletes from across the nation, competing in multiple sports codes, over one weekend and fun have-a-go sessions across multiple codes for youth, whanau and low vision athletes.

We will celebrate our athlete's successes with a casual annual awards event on Saturday evening from 6.30-8.30pm.  

Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Basketball will have a 2 day national tournament at Trustpower Arena.  Wheelchair Rugby Teams are invited to register via their local club, parafed or contact Rob at Admin@wheelchairrugby.org.nz for the registration details and the Wheelchair Basketball Registration form is attached at the bottom of the page, which is for individuals to complete if they wish to participate in the Kotahitanga Collective. There are two rounds, the first round being part of the Festival of Disability Sport and the second in Palmerston North in August. Players can enter in one or both rounds and return this to the Tournament Directors - Glenn McDonald-  glennmcdnz@hotmail.com or Pauline Cant whaeapauline@gmail.com.  Whether you participate or spectate, it will be high energy fun!

PLAY will have a dedicated area in Court 3 of the Trustpower Arena with Jo from Parafed Bay of Plenty, who currently delivers the FLIPA programme into schools. There will be fun games set up, including oversize Jenga and Connect 4.  Siobhan from Halberg Foundation and Anna from Achilles NZ will be there to join in with these games and the Have-a-go Sessions which will be on the same court.

HAVE-A-GO Sessions - Saturday YOUTH and Sunday LOW VISION. We invite members, supporters and their whanau to join in with the 30 minute have-a-go sessions, sponsored by Kapura Group and these are focussed on youth for Saturday and Blind and Low Vision on Sunday with Blind Sport NZ.  We encourage those that are not visually impaired to join in with a blindfold to get a feel for the games.  More information can be found in the "Have-a-go Flyer" attached at the bottom of the page.

Boccia, Powerchair Football, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Badminton, Table Tennis and Cricket will be on Courts 7 & 8 to try over the weekend.  You do not need to be a wheelchair user to try these and anybody can have a go!  Meet Stacey Roache - Paralympian Boccia player!

Blind Sport NZ will deliver "Tri Games" - Lawn Bowls, Petanque and a Croquet rotation at Club Mount Maunganui on Saturday - 12 until 4pm.

Sailability Tauranga will be at  Sulphur Point, Tauranga Marina on Saturday from 10.30am-2.30pm with 2 fun sessions at 11am and 1pm.  REGISTRATION COMPULSORY.

Wish4Fish will be at the Stadium over the 2 days to share information about how to book this amaizing FREE fishing charter for people with any disability.

Physio and Sports Massage will be provided at the stadium over the 2 days by the Healthvision team.
