Meet a Member - Elly Hunt

Elly Hunt is the newest member to our Parafed BOP Board. Elly is a full time Massage Therapist for Bureta Physio as well as the Business Development Manager. Some of you may have met Elly at the 2019 Festival of Disability Sport or at recent member meetings she has been attending.

Elly is working her magic across our Parafed BOP Facebook page and developing a marketing strategy for the Club.

We wanted to get to know Elly a bit better so we asked her a few questions....

Did you grow up in Tauranga?
Yes I did. I lived in Argentina for a year, as that’s where my Mum and her side is from. I was born in Sydney.

What was your pathway into massage therapy?
I started off as a student Nurse, decided I wanted to work in prevention for health and fitness, cross credited to become a Personal Trainer. From there I worked in the non-profit sector as Health Promotor and Regional Coordinator. I then moved into the business side of Health and Fitness, becoming a Regional Manager for a gym. I began to miss being hands on with people, therefore I did a Massage Qualification on top of my Sport and Recreation Degree.

You’ve now starting working with the Bay of Plenty Rugby team, The Steamers, how are you finding that?
I love it. I haven't told them I support the Wallabies. The team is awesome. I complete the massage under Michelle at IFix Massage and it's a great business to work under in the elite athlete world.

What do you want to bring to Parafed Bay of Plenty?
Fresh ideas on how to expand and promote the sports, members and organisation. I also add value by community relationships, collaboration and engagement.

What’s your goals for the next 12 months?
To continue to advance in my career and as Board Member of Parafed Bay of Plenty. I would also like to take a few trips overseas and join a social sport.

Who inspires you?
My boss, owner of Bureta Physio, Jacinta Horan. She is the Olympic Physio for NZ and the only Female Physio Specialist in the country. Whilst being a wife and Mum of 3.

What was the best concert you ever attended?
Jack Johnson

Where's your favourite place in the world?
I haven't travelled very much. But I would have to say Argentina because that is where a lot of my family live and the food is great!

If you could be any animal, which would you be?
I would be a shag, because I could swim and fly.

What are you passionate about?
Serving the community, inclusiveness is something that drives me in my everyday life. I am also passionate about wellbeing and making sure I am nourishing my body and soul.

What's your favourite movie?
Love actually.

What's the craziest thing you've ever done?
Missed a plane so I could go get a yummy burger.

Thanks Elly for sharing a bit about yourself!
